Unfortunately we can’t take any bookings over the phone.

We have a vegetarian menu but only have a limited capacity for vegan dishes.
Regretfully, we do not have a full vegan or lactose free menu at the Abbey Inn but, if there are no other dietary requirements to take into account, we can adapt one vegetarian dish per course to suit a vegan diet.

We are unable to provide a vegan breakfast and so are unsuitable for overnight stays.

When making a booking, please let us know of any allergies or intolerances.

Whilst we follow best practice at all times, we do like to highlight the fact that all the dishes we serve are produced in an environment where allergens are also prepared and cooked. We cannot guarantee that the environment will be completely allergen-free.

We strongly recommend booking ahead, as we cannot guarantee a table. If you are happy to wait with a drink, we will always try to accommodate you in the dining room. In good weather, you can enjoy dishes from our shorter bar menu in our garden without a reservation.

Table reservations are currently open to the end of February.

Room reservations are currently open to the end of November.

We can offer tables for up to 8 guests.

We have three first-floor rooms at The Abbey Inn.

Our rooms are predominantly offered on a range of two-night packages. Guests would stay at The Abbey Inn with dinner at both The Abbey Inn and The Black Swan across the two nights.

Due to last minute cancellations, rooms may become available for single night stays at short notice.

We do not require a deposit for a table reservation but do require a deposit for a room reservation.

Table Cancellation Policy
We kindly require guests to provide a minimum of 24 hours notice if you are not able to attend.

Room Cancellation Policy
In the event of a cancellation within 14 days of the arrival date we will keep the whole deposit as a cancellation charge. If we are able to re-let the booking we will refund the whole deposit (minus a £10 administration charge). In the event of a cancellation outside of 14 days of the arrival date, we will refund the whole deposit (minus a £10 administration charge).

A discretionary service charge of 10% will be added to all bills; this is shared between all staff. No service charge will be added to drinks orders placed at the bar or guests dining from the shorter Bar Menu.

Unfortunately, we do not accept American Express as a method of payment.

The Abbey Inn is a Grade II listed, nineteenth-century building with uneven surfaces, different floor heights and steps. Regretfully, for this reason, any parties including a wheelchair user have to be limited to a maximum of 5 guests.

For further information regarding accessibility, please contact us at info@abbeyinnbyland.co.uk

Yes, children are very welcome in the restaurant. We have a child-friendly menu for children under 12, but they are able to choose dishes from the main menu if preferred. Please let us know at the time of booking how many children are in your party and if you require any booster seats/high chairs.

Due to spacing in our dining areas, we are not able to accommodate buggies, pushchairs or prams at the table. We kindly ask you leave these at home or in your car.

Unfortunately we are not able to accommodate infants, babies or children under 18 years old within the guest bedrooms.

Child Changing Facilities
We have children’s changing facilities in the indoor women’s toilets and for male parents/guardians there are also changing facilities in the accessibility toilet located outside, to the rear of the building.

Dogs are allowed in the bar and main dining area but not within the bedrooms. We ask that you keep your dog on a lead at all times whether inside or in the garden area.

Should your dog bark excessively or display aggressive behaviour towards other dogs or guests, we will ask that you remove your dog from the premises.

These tables are not available to book and are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Our car park is available to Abbey Inn guests and English Heritage badge holders only. We would be grateful if our guests would use the car park to the rear of the Abbey Inn. Please do not park on the grass verges between Byland and Wass.

Further parking is available at the lay-by on Byland Bank (on the left at the bottom the hill as you approach Byland Abbey from Coxwold).

Ramblers are very welcome to use the car park at Wass Village Hall – a donation to the maintenance of their car park is appreciated. This is then a 15 minute walk to The Abbey Inn.

Of course, we have comfortable seating by the fireplace close to the bar. We look forward to welcoming you!

Yes, we offer monetary gift vouchers for The Abbey Inn which can be used towards food, drinks or DBB packages. Gift vouchers are available in either postal or email format and can be ordered here.

Please note that vouchers for Roots, The Black Swan and Made in Oldstead cannot be used at The Abbey Inn.

If you do need a taxi, we highly recommend booking in advance as there are no taxis at Byland. The nearest taxi companies are located around anywhere from 2 to 8 miles away, so if you need transport it is really important to book well in advance.

Yes! We look forward to welcoming you, your family and friends to celebrate special occasions with us and will have a small, but special, treat for those marking an important event.

As a cosy country pub, there is little space for large birthday decorations as this can impose on other diners. Should you wish to bring a small balloon that is absolutely fine.

We will also supply candles which can be used in one of our desserts – if you choose one – but we do ask you not to bring your own cakes into The Abbey Inn.
